Our automotive technology programs combine classroom and hands-on experiences that prepare students for careers in all phases of automotive service and repair on all types of cars. Students are trained on the use of workshop manuals in traditional and computerized formats, hand held meters and scanners, and special shop tools including power and hand tools. This program and its instructors are Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified.
At Cosumnes River College (CRC), the automotive student service education training program (ASSET) – offered in conjunction with Ford Motor Company – is incorporated into the degree program. To enroll in ASSET automotive courses at CRC, students must apply and be accepted into the ASSET program.

The early childhood education programs offer an interactive approach to acquiring the knowledge, skills, and disposition necessary to work with young children. Students are guided by a group of experienced and qualified faculty in an in-depth study of the theories, principles, and practices of early childhood and child development. Students acquire direct experiences through supervised coaching and mentoring practicum courses.
The early childhood education department strives to bring innovative, research based, current information and knowledge to students. Reflective practices and critical thinking are woven into all coursework leading to certificates and degrees. Our early childhood education departments believe in the importance of promoting an engaging, intellectually challenging, and creative learning environment.
The early childhood education programs are coordinated with the child development and early childhood education majors offered by several state universities, which aligns with undergraduate and graduate work leading to advanced degrees.

Our education and teaching programs prepare students to be teachers in public and private elementary schools. Further education at the university level will be required to fulfill all requirements for a teaching credential authorizing service in California public schools.

The Electronics Technology program combines broad based Electronic and Telecommunications training with the newest specialty areas. By working closely with our industry partners we ensure our curriculum is relevant and meets industry current and future needs. This relevant and up-to-date education prepares graduates for excellent career opportunities in the Electronics, Robotics, Telecommunications, Automated Systems, and Microcomputer Technician fields.

Emergency Medical Technology and Paramedicine is an allied health specialty whose practitioners respond to emergencies before a patient reaches a hospital, rendering basic and advanced medical treatment before and during transport to a medical facility. Classroom, clinical and field internship training prepares paramedics/EMTs to assess and treat a wide variety of medical emergencies. The knowledge, skills and experience gained through the program allows students to meet the responsibilities outlined in the Department of Transportation’s Emergency Medical Services Education Standards.

The Funeral Service Education program prepares students for entry-level positions in funeral service. It is designed to meet the prerequisites for licensure and employment in the field of funeral service as funeral directors or embalmers. The Funeral Service Education Program at American River College is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE).

The General Education program offers certificates of achievement to satisfy the general education requirements for the California State University (CSU) system or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC).
In addition, the Associate in Liberal Arts degree is designed for students who wish a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences, plus additional studies in one of four "Areas of Emphasis". An area of emphasis would be an appropriate choice for a student planning to transfer to the California State University (CSU) or the University of California (UC), as the student can satisfy general education requirements, plus focus on transferable coursework that relates to majors at CSU or UC. Students must satisfactorily complete 60 units of collegiate coursework with a "C" (2.0) grade point average in curriculum that the district accepts toward this degree.

Our health education programs seek to identify the health education needs of local businesses, organizations, and individuals in the community and to develop the innovative and informative courses that are necessary to meet the diverse health education needs of the community.

American River College's interior design program provides a foundation of education and skills in the expanding field of interior design. Topics include space planning, building and life-safety codes, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Our curriculum covers green and sustainable interiors, materials of interior design, architectural (global and regional) and furniture history, business practices, event planning, and universal design.

Our physical education and athletics programs encourage students to hone skills in their personal management of life-long health and wellness. Beginning classes concentrate on fundamental skills, rules, scoring, equipment, dress, etiquette, and basic strategy. Intermediate classes continue efforts on skill development while concentrating on strategy and competitive play. Advance courses allow students to reach a high level of ability in the activity. All activity classes are open to both men and women.
Our kinesiology programs focus on the theoretical aspects of sports activity.

The medical laboratory technician (MLT) program at Folsom Lake College is designed to prepare students to qualify for and pass the National Medical Laboratory Technician Licensing exam. The Folsom Lake College MLT program is accredited by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Laboratory Field Services (LFS), and National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
The MLT program includes aspects of didactic and clinical training to prepare students to step into functioning medical laboratories, either in a hospital or research lab setting. The program has robust prerequisites and is intended to equip completers to execute any aspect of their profession both within and outside California. Not only will this approach prepare students for possible career advancement later, it will also result in the best possible preparation for a career as an MLT.
Successful completion of the MLT program requirements and general education graduation requirements of Folsom Lake College qualify the student for an associate degree in Medical Technology. Program completers are eligible to sit for the national MLT licensing exam administered by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Once a passing score on the ASCP National exam is achieved, graduates can apply for both national certification and state licensure.

The program is designed to prepare the student for licensure, for employment, and to participate as a member of a health care team. As part of the program, students will be placed in an operating medical laboratory as an intern in their final semester of program residence. Completers of the program will have demonstrated consistently professional, safe, and ethical practice.
AS, CERTIFICATE
The Nursing program consists of a combination of general education and nursing courses with related laboratory experience in local health agencies. Successful completion of the program qualifies the student to take the National Licensing Examination to become registered as a nurse and eligible for employment. A grade of "C" or better is required in each nursing course for progression in the program and for an Associate Degree in Nursing. The nursing curriculum is a two-year program offered in four sequential semesters. There are two application periods per year and students are accepted for the spring and fall semesters.
The Allied Health program is of benefit to students seeking careers in the health field by teaching the foundational medical language needed in many health-related programs.

Our social science programs are designed to highlight the interconnectedness of various scientific disciplines. The curriculum enables students to understand how issues and events are shaped by diverse socio-economic, political, ecological, biological and geographical forces.
The study of sociology facilitates careers in public policy, law, politics, social services, and international work. An advanced education in sociology can also lead to teaching at the high school, college, and graduate levels. Sociologists are also involved in research at the local, state, and federal levels, and in both private and public sector industry. Finally, many sociologists apply their education to working with local and global communities to support social justice issues.
Our cooperative work experience education and internship program is a unique educational plan. It provides students with the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge by applying what is learned in the classroom with planned, supervised, on-the-job experience.
Through the program students can earn college credits (up to 16 units) while they work or complete on-the-job training through an internship.
Your work site may be located on or off campus and consist of paid work, volunteer work, or internships. Your employer must provide new or expanded learning opportunities or responsibilities.
